Chess

We meet at lunchtimes Thursday and Friday 11:15-12:00 in the Library to practise. For students who have other lunchtime commitments Tinana State School offers an extra and flexible coaching opportunity using ChessKid Online.

ChessKid.com is an online learning system for chess. At Tinana it will be used as a backup to the regular in school coaching at lunchtimes.  As a part of the GOLD MEMBERSHIP, users will be able to:
  • Access all lessons
  • Access unlimited puzzles
  • Play games of chess against others
  • Search the database for videos on different themes
  • Be a part of a ‘Tinana Chess Club’ Be a part of the wider Gardiner Chess ‘club’

The memberships will run for 1 year in length, from 14 Feb through to 13 Feb the following year – allowing the membership to be used during the Christmas holidays for more learning and improvement! ChessKid has a complete safety policy, which is why we are choosing to work with this company.  Tinana State School will cover the cost per student.

Inter-School Tournament Information
Our club also competes in local inter-school tournaments run by Gardiner Chess.  Students compete in teams of four for our school.  St Mary’s Primary School hosts term 1&2 tournaments and Tinana SS will host in Term 3 in our Hall.  Please see Mrs Yates if you want to know more about Interschool Chess Tournaments.

Prizes are awarded for 1st - 3rd individual and 1st to 3rd team in each division, and merit ribbons awarded for 4.5/7 or higher.

Readers Cup

Readers Cup competitions challenge students to read widely, work collaboratively in a team and continue developing a love of reading. It allows readers to compete at a regional and state level similar to sporting competitions and to meet other students with an equal passion for books.

Book Fairs

Thanks you to the Tinana community for supporting our Book Fairs. We set a target of $5000 and usually come VERY close or surpass this target. We will be using the commission to purchase digital resources in 2019 for our students.

Show Display

The Library staff organises the display for the Fraser Coast Show. We hope everyone got a chance to go to the Show to see our wonderful student artwork on display. Thank you to our teachers and students who embraced the 2019 theme ‘cane and cattle’ and contributed artwork during this busy time.

LOL Club is on!

Unless the Library is closed for NAPLAN or Book Fair it is open for LOL (Love of Literature) Club in the mornings. See you Monday, Wednesday and Thursdays at 8:15am for reading!!

MP State School Junior Reading Challenge
