Religious Instruction (RI) is the time set aside in Years 1-12 in state schools where parents / carers can consent for their children to be educated in the faith of their choosing. RI is currently offered on Friday in all year levels with the exception of Prep.
Students who participate in RI are taught from the Godspace curriculum. This is the program authorised by the Maryborough Ministers Fraternal.
The faith groups that provide religious instructors to deliver the authorised program are listed below. The instructors are volunteers from the faith groups. Volunteers undertake accreditation including Working with Children checks, student protection and school induction processes.

Parents of children participating in RI will be advised if a faith group requires funds to cover the expense of materials used in RI.
Students are allocated to RI based on information provided by parents on the completed Application for Student Enrolment unless other written instructions have been provided to the school.
Note: This information remains operational unless a parent informs the school otherwise in writing.
Students who are not participating in RI will be provided with other instruction in a separate supervised location. Other instruction must relate to part of a subject area already covered in class and may include, but is not restricted to:
- personal research and/or assignments
- revision of class work such as creative writing or literacy and/or numeracy activities. Activities could include online programs currently accessed by the students of that school
- wider reading such as independent reading appropriate to the student
Parents will be advised of any changes to RI programs to ensure they are able to make an informed decision on their child's participation.
Further information is available here.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Does my child have to do RI?
RI is not compulsory. Students only participate in RI when a parent gives consent either at enrolment or subsequently in writing to the principal.
What will my child do, if they do not participate in RI?
Students not participating in RI will be supervised in a different area and undertake alternative activities which may include, reading, written work and on-line activities as directed by their teacher.
My religious denomination is Anglican. Will my child receive instruction in the Anglican faith?
RI at Tinana is taught from the Godspace curriculum based on the Christian faith. It is delivered by volunteers from the participating Christian faith groups, not necessarily any one faith group.
