Eco Committee
The committee meets once a term on Wednesday in week 7 at 8am. During
big projects such as the Sustainability School Symposium, the committee may
meet more regularly.
Committee keeps records of their decisions in the form of minutes. These
are shared at school management meetings and P&C meetings, and with all
classes/year groups and displayed on an Eco-Schools notice board (in library)
as well as in the school fortnightly Newsletter - Tintaks. Key issues will be raised at school Parade and with the
wider community when possible. Wherever possible, it is recommended that students
carry out the minuting process and the subsequent dissemination of information.
The sense of democracy involved, and the motivation in
resolving initiatives brought forth by the students themselves are products of
this process.
Environmental Review
The Environmental Review is an important tool that will assist the Eco Committee in understanding the ecological and social impact our school has on the local environment and our community. This checklist will be of assistance to our Eco-Committee to quantify the school’s impact in terms of the seven Eco-Schools themes and to generate action project ideas.
Survey 1
Litter & Waste: The Cycle of Stuff Waste & Waterways: Developing our Next Generation of Waterway Keepers
Survey 2 Biodiversity: Habitats & Homes
Energy & Climate: Super Smart Power
Survey 3
Water: Think, Drink, Save the Sink Lifestyles: Healthy and Active
Survey 4
Fair Go: Global Citizens for Social Justice
Our Eco-Committee will use this review to check off the areas in which our school is currently making improvements and to help us recognise areas that might need a focus in both the short and long term. This activity is to be student lead as it will inform the actions taken by students.
Each Survey will focus on 1-2 themes with 5 questions each. How to Rate Your School Rate your school on a scale of one to five stars as per below: 5 Yes, we are champions in this area! 4 In this area we have taken positive steps, but we still can improve. 3 We’ve just started our journey! 2 Hmm, we’re in the planning stages. 1 Ha! We never thought of that – thanks for the idea!
Thank you for supporting Sustainability in our school.
